Discover Our Past

Kuti is the youngest and smallest wildlife reserve in Malawi. Despite the park’s relatively short existence we boast a rich history when it comes to protecting flora and fauna.

Meet our people.

1990’s

Kuti is a successful cattle ranch. It is run by the Malawi Government in co-operation with the German Government as a breeding station to improve cattle and genetics.

1998

The breeding programme is disbanded due to changes in government, and Kuti is acquired from the privatisation commission of Malawi by the Wildlife Producers and Hunters Association of Malawi (WPHAM).

2005

Kuti is established as an official Wildlife Reserve by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife.

2009

The committee of WPHAM forms a group of Trustees and creates Kuti Community Wildlife Trust to operate as a conservation project and animal breeding site. The increasing human/wildlife conflict makes protecting flora and fauna Kuti’s main priority.

2024

Kuti’s land is leased by Kuti Experience, a foundation which continues protecting Kuti’s forests and wildlife alongside re-establishing Kuti as a prime eco-tourim destination for local communities and international tourists.

Now

Kuti Experience continues to protect forests and wildlife while also creating daring concepts to remain relevant as a destination for tourists.
